Micro & Mini

Micro and mini work is simply work done small — tucked onto a wrist or behind an ear, or chosen as an easy first tattoo. Small does not mean easy: the smaller the piece, the more weight every single line carries.

 

• A small tattoo has no spare room. The same design needs more editing at this size than it would large.

• So rather than shrinking the original drawing, it is redrawn keeping only the elements that survive at that scale.

• Lines set too close together can read as one over the years, which is why the spacing is opened up in advance.

• The small bird, the mini pieces and the lips are all work of this kind.

• Sessions are short, which makes scheduling easy — including for travellers on a tight itinerary.

• Healing is relatively light, though the aftercare itself is no different from a large piece.

• Flat, low-friction places — wrist, collarbone, inner arm, behind the ear — are the safe choices.

• Fingers and feet see constant use, and small designs fade there fastest, which is said before booking.

• Starting small and adding pieces beside it later is entirely possible.

• If that is the plan, say so when the first placement is chosen; it saves awkward spacing later on.
